The Le Mans Prototype (LMP) class of racing is the fastest closed wheel racing today in a closed race course. LMP is not a free for all formula, but engineers and designers have a wide variety of options to bring the performance of these cars to phenomenal levels. They even have hybrid designs with electric motors to assist in acceleration. The format attracts manufacturers from across the globe with the opportunity to show their building prowess, power and performance. AFX has captured the look and feel of these unique racing machines in the new 24 Hour Champions Race Set (Catalog # 22004). The set comes with two LMP cars, complete with detailed liveries, riding on the Mega G+ 1.7 chassis. You also get two, 120 Controllers, the adjustable Tri-Power, power pack, 30 ft. of track, accessories and a set of spare pick up shoes and springs. Let’s dig into the box and see what all comes with this set.
Everything comes packed nice and secure. You also get an owner’s guide and track building flyer with 12 different layouts and how to assemble them. There is also a nice pit garage that is detail printed, both inside and outside, and comes with the two-sided tape needed to assemble.
The set comes with a pair of the 120 Controllers and the Tri-Power power pack that can be set to 8, 12, and 22 volts. The adjustable power is ideal for younger racers or for anyone new to slot racing and needs to build up to the full power of 22 volts.
Of course everyone wants to see the new cars! The two LMP racers that come with the set are the familiar Audi R18 Hybrid decked out in the Audi factory colors. To set up the racing excitement, the second car is the Toyota TS040 Hybrid, a new tooling to add to our HO scale stables. The cars come with the Mega G+ chassis. These coupled with the 120 Controller and Tri-Power work really well for both the experienced racer and those new to the hobby.

The Toyota and Audi sure do show well and put on quite the race. The bodies are well matched and the Mega G+ runs well right out of the box.
One the great things about this set are all the options for different tracks you can build with what comes in the box. With twelve different layouts, you can try each one out to find what you like, or rotate them around every few days to race a whole championship right in your living room floor!
Once again, AFX has knocked one out of the park with the 24 Hour Champions Race Set. The combination of track and accessories alone make this a great starter set, but the detail of the Audi R18 and Toyota TS040 LMP racers are outstanding. It’s a clear message that AFX is into the finite details that make their cars unique and desirable for any collector or racer.
