How do you bring to the present, a historic racing icon like the Ford GT40? Well Ford pulled that off twice! In 2005, the first generation Ford GT hit the streets, heavily based on the 2002 GT40 Concept car. That design ran until 2006 after 4038 cars were produced. It seemed the modern Ford GT dream was over, until the 50 year anniversary of the historic Ford win at Le Mans in 1966 was coming around the corner. The guys at Ford couldn’t pass up the nostalgia and started building the Ford GT for 2016. Both street and a competition version were produced and like magic, a Ford GT won Le Mans in 2016, a grand celebration for a 50th anniversary! The AFX Ford GT is a very detailed 1:64th scale rendition of the second generation GT. The three dimensional details include rear fender aero structures and all of the windows and headlight details are clear. In this article we cover the two cars released by AFX and the limited edition release offered through Bob Beers. Let’s take a closer look at the new releases.

One thing I can say, AFX is the king of fine detail. They certainly made the Ford GT a much desired model to add to any HO collection. They race pretty well too. They sit nice and low and wrap around the Mega G+ chassis with very little extra space keeping the center of gravity as low as the real car. The clear details in the headlights and windshield and the interior insert, complete with engine details, really set this car up in looks. This looks like another hit for AFX!
