Memories are great thing and being able to bring something new to the hobby and still have a respectful tribute to those things that came before is a rare commodity. Auto World’s latest race set release, The Motorsport 500 (SRS346) has a pair of cars that give that tribute to the paint schemes that graced the original Aurora “Wild Ones”. Combined with a nice sized layout, this hails back to the race sets that I or my friends got to open up on Christmas morning all those years ago. This set would be a fantastic opportunity to pass along that tradition and give the next generation of slot racers their start in the hobby.
Above are the contents of the box, along with the parts list. The set includes the new Auto World variable power pack and supplies a range of power from 9 volts up to 24 volts at a full 2 Amps. The adjustable power is terrific for new or younger racers and allows then to develop their skills at lower power and can increase their speed as their driving improves. The set also comes with color matching controllers for each car.
The layout is 14 feet of racing action and has a few extra pieces to build additional layouts to keep things interesting. Alternate layouts are illustrated on the back of the box.
So let’s check out these tribute cars that come in the race set.
1969 Chevy Camaro SS #2 White/Blue Stripes
1969 Dodge Charger R/T #3 White/Red Stripe
Here are few more views of the new cars in this race set.
We mentioned earlier in this article that the paint schemes pay tribute to the original Aurora “Wild Ones” cars. Below is a picture of those original cars paired up with their contemporary twins from this release.
Here are some racing action shots of the Camaro and Charger on this new set.
The original “Wild Ones” were among Aurora’s first attempts at a factory improved, hopped up car. It included foam tires and new racy looking paint jobs to capture the racer’s attention. Those eye-catching paint jobs are very present in this new release, paired with the performance of the Xtraction chassis and brings back a lot of pleasant memories from back in the day. This set would be an ideal gift for that new racer, collector or youngster that like go-fast competition and can give us older generation the chance to pass along this great hobby. The Motorsport 500 is scheduled for release in November 2022, just in time for the holiday season.
