Way back in 1971, Stock car racing saw some major changes. The “Aero Wars” were over with NASCAR frowning on the purpose built aerodynamic wing cars like the Superbird and Charger Daytona. The Daytona 500 that year did see a Charger Daytona entered, but limited to a mere 305 cubic inches compared to the 426 big blocks used by the other Plymouths and Dodges. And as the saying goes, “you can’t beat cubic inches” and the big blocks were dominant. Among those dominant cars were Richard Petty’s 1971 Plymouth Road Runner and Bobby Isaac’s 1971 Dodge Charger. Petty took the Plymouth to victory lane that day and Isaac was running well leading several laps but finished 10th. Dick Brooks brought the 305 Charger Daytona home in 7th place after some damage from an earlier dust up with Pete Hamilton. The Auto World Stock Car Showdown Petty vs. Isaac Race Set highlights the Plymouth and Dodge that competed in that great race back in 1971. The set comes with unique 21 inch radius 20° banked curves that allows for some high speed racing, but are shallow enough to make you drive the cars. Let’s take a look at this race set.
Above are the contents of the box, along with the parts list. The set comes with color matching controllers for each car.
The pictures show the banked layout with the extra supports, retaining walls and grandstand.

1971 Dodge Charger – Dark Orange/White #71 – Bobby Isaac
Here’s a little track action between these racing legends.
The racing action in 1971 was intense. We still had the no holds barred big blocks and the cars pretty much looked like what we drove on the street. Some of the greatest drivers in the sport were on the track and the speed was intoxicating. Auto Captures some of that intensity from that era with this race set and the Xtraction cars are spot-on for the Petty and Isaac cars of that era.
