Well, here we are, coming to the end of the year, the weather’s turning cold and the season is right for setting up the slot car track and shaking off the cold with a few hot laps. Just in time for all this wintery indoor activity, Auto World has released the second series of their very popular “Racing Rigs”. This time around they added the Peterbilt semi truck and dump truck, along with a new trailer design with a new rear door layout and a depressed center. Lots of detail this time too. These make a really nice addition to the previously released GMC Astro 95. Like the earlier release, the new Peterbilts have dual guide pins on the semi truck and dump trucks and two guide pins on the tandem unit below the trailer. They come set up with the blades down. I recommend that you reverse the guides so the pins face down, especially if you have any 6 inch radius turns in your layout. Both designs come with the Auto World X-Traction chassis and the second set of rear wheels are free turning units mounted directly to the body itself. These new releases will make fine additions to any collection and are more than race worthy! It’s time for me to stop rambling at let the trucks do all the talking. After all, how can you ignore a big rig?
The Peterbilt dump trucks come in black or red and white two-tone. The beds are fixed in position, but the dump gates are hinged and are operational as seen in the pictures above. Although both units are unlighted, the hardware is in place for future use. It would be an easy job to add a grain of wheat bulb r LED to the chassis to take advantage of this. The guide pins have been removed for the pictures.
The black and red Peterbilt from the Racing Rigs second series has lots of chrome and the details are finely done, right down to the marker lights and air horns. The Competition Cams logo really pops on the black trailer. The paint finish is clear, sharp and very glossy! The guide pins were removed for the photos.
The yellow and white Peterbilt has Holley, Hooker and Weiand logos, all very neatly applied, sharp and detailed. Note the new rear of the trailer in the lower picture. Auto World has detailed out a nice rolling door and what appears to be a lift at the lower portion of the door. The guide pins have been removed for the photos. These will make very nice additions to any pit area and will be way cool to race! Time to get these on your wish list for Santa! Even if you were naughty!
