This theme covers the Heavy Metal culture from the iconic Fender Guitar line to a couple of metal legends in Motorhead and Slayer. #1A 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 – Competition Blue (Competition Burgundy)/Blue Stripes – Fender Mustang
The Fender Mustang was first introduced in 1964. In 1969, Fender released the Competition Series with a racing stripe across the body and a painted headstock. The theme was based on the Shelby Mustangs of the 1960’s. The Competition Blue colored body is listed as Competition Burgundy in the Fender Catalog. The guitars in the Competition Series came in blue, red, and orange with the racing stripes.

Motorhead came on the scene in London back in 1975 and are considered the harbinger of the reemergence of heavy metal to British rock music. As a power trio their music is often considered thrash metal or speed metal, but the band thought they were just a rock band. They notable success in the early 1980’s paved the way for their lengthy careers spanning 40 years until the deaths of the three members of the best known line up of the trio in 2015-2018.

Slayer came together in California in 1981. A thrash metal band known for their fast and aggressive music style and often controversial themes, they are considered one of the “Big Four” thrash metal bands that include Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax. That’s pretty “good” company in the world of metal. Slayer had their original run from 1981 through 2019 and reformed in 2024 and continue to perform on a year to year basis.
